Canaries
Canaries derive their name from their Island of origin - the Spanish Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco. Canaries were first domesticated in the early 16th century and have proven to be useful to humans to detect potentially dangerous gasses in mines. Canaries have also be kept as pets since that time.
