Are You Damaging Your Business Being A Power Seller

By: Graham Waite

It would be safe to assume your eBay goal should be to become an eBay Powerseller wouldn't it? But inspite of every thing eBay tell us their are those that differ in this view.

Sydney Johnson looked at the accepted practices and then looked at effective ways of laughing at those who followed the herd and has become a bit of rebel with her unconventional but highly succesful underground methods.

When it comes to experience few are more experienced on eBay than Sydney Johnson who has been on the site since 1996. This when eBay was barely a a baby. But Sydney took her in depth knowledge and turned it into the amazing Auction Genius Course.

The traditional route for ambitious traders on eBay is to aim towards building a prominent profile built on vast quantities of favorable feedback. The feedback is basically a vote of confidence, or otherwise, from people who have done business with you on eBay.

Becoming a "Power Seller" is an status all serious sellers on eBay are looking to achieve, as quickly as possible but an experienced and wise Sydney Johnson reminds us that this may not be always to our advantage.

" I was a Power Seller for some time, until I noticed that I was drawing attention to my activity on eBay. So decided another approach was required so now I run multiple ID's with lower feedabck quite deliberately and it keeps me out of sight so no one know's I am there"

If things go wrong a high level profile can be very quickly detrimental to your business. Even Sydney was not immune to such happenings and found to her chegrin that when a suppplier who she had used for years let her down the subsequent fall out and damage to her business to many weeks to recover as her feedback was desimated in hours.

Sydney might be a bit of a renegade but won't break the rules which eBay have continued to add with worrying regularity.

Though she abides by the rules she likes to sail close to the wind. She is one of the many traders who see eBay as more of a remarkable lead generator than a limitless marketplace. She sees the web site as a starting point but she likes to form her own customer lists generated from her initial contacts made on eBay and take them out of the eBay stable and into her own more malleable marketplace.

This is where she and other traders like her are not model eBay traders. They are independent thinkers who don't like to confine their business to just this one vehicle.
