Business Communications - Your Basket of Marketing Tools

By: Vlad Ehrsam

While many small businesses are aware they need business communications, the very term serves to mystify them. Granted that it exudes an indefinable quality, but business communications refers to a whole basket of important, helpful goodies for all businesses.

Copywriting

Probably the most important element of business communications is copywriting. It is used in all your advertising and for your website. Copywriting is how and what you say about your business, your products and your services. Effective copywriting is what gets a potential customer interested in your product and then makes him or her go out and buy it.

Another aspect of copywriting is writing for publicity purposes. This includes writing press releases. This sort of business communication activity will help you receive more attention from the public, and have it communicated in a more credible way.

As does writing newsletters for your customers helps you cultivate good customer relations while keeping them up to date on the latest happening and events at your company, like unique discount sales or new products or offers. And it creates a sense of belonging to a community, one that is always there.

Special products like brochures, flyers, and special publications also require copywriting. They are considered business communications as they are products specifically designed to catch the eye and stimulate business growth. These products are good to have in your arsenal, and copywriters are needed to effectively get your point across.

Business Letters

Business letters are how you communicate with others who help keep the business running. You send these to suppliers and clients and backers. With increased reliance on technology, emails fall into this category. Letters can be emailed, as stated before, faxed, or even delivered by courier or through the mail. This correspondence is what keeps your business functioning.

Internal Communications

Inter-office communication forms part of business communications. Memos, messages, phone calls and meetings are all forms of inter-office communication. You need to communicate with members of your staff so that they understand what is expected of them and are clear on their job specifications. In addition, you can give them feedback about their performance and this helps boost their morale. Open channels of communication in an organization ensure that everyone is kept up to date and they generally foster a good working atmosphere.

Promotional Items

While not to every businessperson's taste, promotional items can help attract people to your side. They can create a public presence generate company awareness and enhance your business image as a sound, reliable and professional company. They include items such as shirts, business diaries, pens, tote bags, key chains and even little toys. No matter how you might wince at them remember they attract public attention, especially because carry them around a lot of the time.
