Country Club Golf Courses

By: adrian calow

How much golf do you play? Can you justify the cost of membership against the amount you spend on green fees every time you play a round at your country club golf course?

If you only play on Saturday mornings for instance, and the green fee is $25 your golf is costing you $1300 a year. Not much point then in forking out $2000 to become a member. Obviously though, looking at those figures, if you played twice a week you would be wise to take up the offer of country club golf membership.

There are of course other privileges to becoming a member of your country club that should be considered such as spa, sauna and gym equipment available etc. Is there an in house league, competitions and other activities? Is there a thriving youth program for your youngsters to get involved with and anything your partner may be interested in if they don't play golf?

For many people joining the local country club is all about status. These clubs can be important for making important business contacts etc. as the club house is usually the center of the social life. While some may be joining to perhaps get closer to potential customers for ther business others join so their teenage children can make new friends and contacts as they approach adult hood. The country club golf house is a great place for kids to learn correct etiquette.

For true golfers though, these are just added bonuses to being a member of what is hopefully a great golf course. As a golfer, what might be of interest is that many country club golf shops offer discounts to their members. These can range from 10% up to 20% and you could also be offered discount green fees to any none members who accompany you for a round of golf.

If you are new to the area you may wish to try several country clubs before deciding by taking out a monthly membership. Even if they do not advertise a one month membership, they can usually be negotiated.

Many country clubs now have property available within their borders. These homes are designed with the retirement couples in mind and often come with country club golf membership, or at the very least, a discount. One such club is the Pinewild Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. As well as golf it offers tennis, swimming and a lake for fishing. What a way to spend your remaining days!

These live in country club golf courses are very popular in Europe, in particular Portugal and Spain. Already tens of thousands have taken early retirement from northern european countries such as England and made a new life for themselves with a warmer climate and world class golf.
