Jogging and running can lead to major knee complications especially over years of pounding on the hard pavement. With an elliptical trainer a person can avoid a lot of pain and the surgeon's knife.

But not all elliptical trainers are created the same nor are they all as effective in ensuring one is getting the most intense exercise. Some elliptical trainers today do very little in the way of one getting what the want in terms of overall fitness.

Before buying a elliptical trainer, evaluate the amount of time and intense training you want to accomplish on the elliptical trainer. This assessment will tell you how much power you will require from an elliptical trainer.

Once you have determined your performance requirement of the elliptical trainer it is time to consider the following:

1. Depending on your performance requirement, evaluate the stride length of the elliptical trainer.

2. Levels of resistance is paramount in assessing an elliptical trainers. If you want an intense workout, make sure the elliptical trainer has at least 20 levels of resistance.

3. How many programs are available with the elliptical trainer?

4. Does the elliptical trainer have options like arm workouts, heart rate monitors, etc?

After doing your due diligence, you should have a pretty good amount of data collected on an elliptical trainer. Now it is time to compare prices. There are many good manufactures out there so look for a good price but don't sacrifice quality. The investment you make into an elliptical trainer will reward you many times over if you make the right decision.
