Hamster Diseases – Mange
Mange is a common skin condition that occurs in adult hamsters. Mange is generally an irritation of the skin that can cause redness and hair loss.
Mange is caused by a skin-dwelling parasite that burrows into the pet’s skin and feeds off of the hamster’s tissue. Hamsters typically will experience itching and irritation. If you notice your pet losing large clumps of hair on the back or underbelly, you may need to contact a veterinarian.
Mange is typically treated by injecting Ivermecting – usually given weekly for up to four weeks. Depending on the type of mange diagnosed by the veterinarian, some topical ointments may be used.

this happened to 3 of my pet mice as well. Try feeding your hamster sunflower seeds, or put small animal vitamins in their water.

Hey, my hamster has something wrong with him and I have no idea what is going on. For some strange reason his tail, front paws, and ears are turning black as if the circulation has been cut off, yet there is nothing possibly in his cage that could cut his blood flow off to those areas. I have recently gotten him new bedding but it doesn’t seem to be the cause. Before these parts of his body started turning black, he had a small case of sticky eye that is now healed, but I’m not sure if this could be an after affect. Also his fur is falling out in clumps, but his skin isn’t red as if it were a case of active mange. Can someone please help me figure what is wrong with my hamster. If anyone has suggestions to what is wrong with my little boy you can contact me at my email: adorableabby95@comcast.net. Thank you,
