POTENTIAL HAZARDS FOR CATS

Keeping your cats safe around the house is important for you and for your beloved pet. Here are some precautions to take to keep everyone happy.

Some cats like chewing on electrical cords. Unplug cords that are dangling and look interesting to your cat.

Look out for poisonous plants. Some common house plants like Easter lilies are toxic to cats and can be lethal if consumed.

Remove tablecloths from your tables. Cats can be curious about what is on your table and will use the tablecloth to climb. Broken dishes could be the result of your cats interest.

Close appliance doors. Cats love to explore. Always check inside your dryer and other appliances before starting their use.

Cover your furniture. To avoid cat hair on your nice couch or chair put an old sheet or other cover over them.

Cover electrical switches in the kitchen and bathrooms. Cats have been known to climb on the kitchen or bathroom counter and play with electrical switches. This can be dangerous when that switch turns on the garbage disposal.

Wind up dangling drapery cords. Cats can strangle themselves by getting their necks caught while playing with the cord.

Taking these and other precautions will keep both you and your pet happy and healthy.

Wouldn’t it be more prudent to get some of the widely available cat appliances, like scratching posts? Mind, I do agree on the electrical chords and appliance doors tips, though can’t imagine keeping a cat inside all the time… they need their space :)
