SOME MONEY SAVING TIPS ON PET CARE
I remember from years ago my wife coming home and announcing that she had just spent $600 at the vet. I was in shock that caring for our Schnauzer could be so expensive. Eventually, I came to realize that she was part of the family and deserved our best attention to her health and happiness.
Saving money on pet care requires some planning and a little help from friends. Here are some ideas to consider:
1. Many online retailers offer discounts and coupons for pet supplies and food.
2. Split the costs of food and treats with a friend. Usually the larger quantity purchased the less expensive the item. Consider buying in bulk and sharing with a friend or neighbor.
3. Low cost vaccinations can be found in some larger pet suppy retailers or animal feed stores. You can even have your pet examined. The quality of those examinations will vary.
4. Your vet may offer seasonal specials. Check with their office to see if they offer specials on dental cleanings, spays, neuters, etc.
5. Do not delay getting your pet in for a diagnosis when they are sick or injured. Usually getting attention to your pet sooner than later will save you money in the long run.
6. Have a rainy day fund for unexpected expenses that may come up especially as your pet ages.
Volunteering at the local shelter will often put you in contact with others who are expert in animal care. Their ideas can often be helpful in caring for your pet. They may also know someone who can advise you on your pet’s care.

I have also found that routine visits at your local humane society will also save you a great deal of money. Usually about half the cost.
